While the return of a Taft College baseball season is currently on hold, former Cougar pitcher Mike Selleck plans to make the most of his opportunity at four-year Tabor College in Hillsboro, Kansas.

Selleck recently took to the mound on opening weekend for the Blue Jays on Feb. 6, getting the start against No. 9 NAIA nationally-ranked Freed-Hardeman University. Selleck didn't disappoint, going five complete innings while allowing one run and a hit while striking out five. His lone mistake was a solo home run in the top of the fourth inning.

Tabor tied up the contest with a run in the bottom of the fourth and put the game away with five runs in the fifth to secure Selleck's first victory. Tabor cruised to a 7-1 win to cap a split on its opening weekend.

Tabor head coach Mark Standiford, now in his 13th year leading the program, was impressed with his sophomore's effort.

"Selleck came out and pounded the strike zone and gave us what we needed on the mound," he said.

Selleck, originally out of Madera's Central High School, pitched two seasons for the Cougars. In a COVID-shortened 2020 season, Selleck made seven starts for Taft and compiled a 2-3 overall record. He recorded 27 strikeouts over 32 innings.
