Taft College sophomore Cassius Shy tossed six shutout innings while Wes Herbert, Zach Jones, and Luis DeLeon all hit home runs to help lead the Cougars to an impressive 10-0 win on Thursday over West Hills College Coalinga in Game 2 of a three-game Central Valley Conference series.

Taft has now won eight straight games to surge to second place in the CVC standings at 9-2. The Cougars, now 16-10 overall, will look to complete the sweep of the Falcons on Saturday (Mar. 30) at 2 p.m. back in Coalinga.

Shy put together his second consecutive solid outing in the win. He was nearly perfect for six innings, allowing just one hit. He struck out eight batters and walked three. The victory evened his record at 4-4.

The Taft offense also did its part. Five of the Cougars 10 hits went for extra bases. Herbert went 2-for-2 with his solo home run in the fourth and a double to lead the Cougars at the plate.

Jones smashed a two-run home run in the top of the first to get Taft on the board and DeLeon also hit a two-run shot in the seventh to close out the scoring.

Buster Hardman also had a good game offensively, going 3-for-4.
