Cassius Shy allowed one run over seven innings while James McCallum drove in three runs to help lead Taft College to a 7-1 win over visiting Bakersfield College on Friday.

The non-conference win snapped the Cougars' two-game losing streak an improved Taft to 4-7 overall.

Shy matched his last performance on the mound, allowing one run and two hits but this time going seven innings. His lone lapse came in the top of the third when he issued a lead-off walk and run-scoring double to Kamron Willman.

From that point, it was all Taft. McCallum launched a two-run home run in the bottom of the third to put the Cougars in front for good and added a RBI double in the seventh to extend their lead to 5-1. McCallum went 3 for 4 to lead Taft at the plate.

Javier Ramirez added a two-run home run of his own as part of a 1 for 2 day at the plate with 2 walks. Jake Pearson went 2 for 4, smacking a pair of doubles with a RBI.

Leo Fontanez and Luis DeLeon closed out the game, both tossing scoreless innings.

Taft returns to action on Tuesday (Feb. 26) when the Cougars travel to Antelope Valley College in Lancaster for a 2 p.m. non-conference game.
