Taft College squared off against Antelope Valley College of Lancaster at home for the first of two meetings scheduled this season. Nick O'Connor got the start on the bump, tossing 5 innings, allowing 1 run on 7 hits, 2 walks and 3 strikeouts to earn him the win.
Offensively, freshman shortstop Javier Ramirez led the way for the Cougars, collecting 4 hits in 5 at-bats. Jayce Gardner went 3-for-4 at the plate with a pair of RBI's and Kyle Gaura went 2-for-3 with 3 runs scored and an RBI. Alec Olsen and Zach Jones also collected a hit.
Kaivon Kealoha tossed 3 scoreless innings of relief and Emilio Velez finished the game off in the ninth.
