The Taft College Baseball team traveled to Coalinga to square off game one against West Hills College. The Cougars struck for 7 runs in the top of the ninth inning with a 3-2 lead to put the game away late. Nick Kawano led the way offensively plating 3 hits in just as many at-bats, scoring 2 runs and earning a walk. His walk brought in a run with bases loaded.

Richard Ortiz, Luke Lubiniecki and Jayce Gardner each collected 2 hits. Brendan Halstrom drove in 2 runs with a double that split the right center gap and Ortiz singled in 2 runs. Both clutch hits happened in the ninth inning.

Will Moore started for the Cougars on the mound and had yet another solid outing. Moore earned his fifth win of the season tossing 6.1 innings, allowing 4 hits and just 2 runs while punching out 2. Seth Sorensen earned his fourth save of the season, closing out the last 2.2 innings and allowing no runs, on one hit with one strikeout.

Taft College has won 6 of their last 7 games and is now 16-18-1 overall, and 7-9 in CVC play. The Cougars look to keep this momentum throughout the last 5 games of the regular season.

Their next game will be at home on Thursday April 20 against West Hills College of Coalinga.
