Taft played game two of their spring break road trip against Ventura College. Mark O'Connor started on the bump and tossed 7 masterful innings for the win. He collected 7 strikeouts and allowed 6 hits for no runs. Tait Ludwick closed out the game, allowing just one hit to complete the combined shutout.
The Cougars scrapped for 1 run in the first when a pass ball went to the backstop and Kyle Gaura scored from third base. However, the big damage was not done until late, when Richard Ortiz hit a 3-run homer to score Nick Kawano and Jayce Gardner and make the score 4-0. Then in the ninth, Luke Lubiniecki hit a solo homer, and Dominic Tating scored from third base on a pass ball.
Gardner collected 2 hits in 3 at-bats, and 5 other Cougars collected 1 hit.
Taft College will play one more game in Los Angeles on Saturday April 15 against the Raiders of Moorpark College before resuming conference play on Wednesday April 19 against West Hills College of Coalinga.
