On Thursday afternoon, TC opened a 2 game set on the road against Monterey Peninsula. Robby Brewster took the mound for the Cougars and suffered a tough loss of a pitcher's duel as his offense could only manufacture 2 runs on 5 hits.
Brewster pitched 5 innings, giving up 3 earned runs on 8 hits while striking out 4. Matt Rogers came out of the bullpen to pitch 2.2 innings giving up no runs on just 2 hits, with Alfred Souza recording the final out of the 8th inning.
Shane Kotz drove in Fabian Gutierrez from 3rd base with a ground out in the 1st and Ricky Sottile drove in Kaivon Kealoha with a double play ground ball in the 7th inning.
Robert Higgs led the Cougars offensively going 2-for-4, Gutierrez and Kealoha both went 1-for-4 with singles, and Richard Ortiz went 1-for-2 with a double.
